We have more than 35 people (see below for the list) who have indicated that they want to attend the cruise on the Potomac from Alexandria to Georgetown (actually the Washington Harbor).
You can pay for the cruise before boarding the boat on Friday evening (at $25 per person with senior discount).
The Matthew Hayes boat is docked and boarded at the foot of Cameron Street (parallel to King Street). To see a map with parking garages Click Here. The boat can take up to 120 people (60 comfortably) and caters mostly to visitors. The cruise is called the "Washington by Water Monuments Cruise". Here is a link to the cruise website: http://potomacriverboatco.com/A2.php.
It is roughly a 45 minute ride to the Washington Harbor and a 45 minute trip back. Departure times are as follows:
From Alexandria to Washington Harbor:
5:30 P.M.
7:30 P.M.
9:30 P.M.
From Washington Harbor to Alexandria:
6:30 P.M.
8:30 P.M.
10:30 P.M. - last trip back
We recommend: Leaving Alexandria at 7:30 P.M.
Arriving at Washington Harbor at 8:15 P.M.
Returning to Alexandria at 10:30 P.M.
Arriving in Alexandria at 11:15 P.M.
Group tickets will be for the 7:30 P.M. cruise, returning at 10:30 P.M. You can use your ticket for any other cruise that night, so if you usually turn in early, you can leave at either 5:30 P.M. or 7:30 P.M., arrive at Washington Harbor at 8:15 P.M. and as most of us are exiting the boat can say "Hi" as you get on the boat for the 8:30 departure back to Alexandria.
Washington Harbor has 3 or 4 restaurants. The Sequoia is probably the nicest, but they would not allow us to reserve outside tables overlooking the Potomac River and the Kennedy Center. When we disembark at the Washington Harbor, you have either a 15 minute or 2 hours and 15 minutes before the boat returns to Alexandria at 8:30 P.M. or 10:30 P.M. We will all order food or drink individually from the menu and pay for it individually.
For those of you who do not want to cruise and see the monuments at night, just come to the Sequoia Restaurant at Washington Harbor (www.sequoiadc.com, address above) between 8 and 10 P.M. and have a drink and mingle with some friends you probably have not see in a long time.
Do not forgot a jacket or sweater for the return trip at 10:30 P.M.
